Do’s and Don’ts Before Tattoo Appointments : A Guide from your Tattoo Artist!
After spending a lot of time on whether or not you should get a new tattoo, here you are trying to search information on the internet on how to prepare yourself before your appointment, and the good news is, I could guide you through it!
First of all, I would like to thank you on being thoughtful about getting a new tattoo, since you know, they stay forever on your body, so you have to decide wisely. Okay, now that we’re here, what are the things that you actually need to prepare before your tattoo session?
DO’S :
- Get enough sleep. Not only you will have more stamina and be more fit for the tattoo session, you will also be more alert and in tune with your body, which is helpful to both of you and your tattoo artist,
- Eat well and stay hydrated. Where do humans get their energy? From food, obviously! And when you are properly hydrated, so is your skin, therefore, it will do wonders for your tattoo session,
- Shower and dress accordingly. It is important to keep your skin fresh and clean before your session, so showering is necessary. Also, make sure to wear comfortable clothes because your session might take hours to finish. It would be even better to wear clothes that will make things easier for you and your tattoo artist during your session (example: if you’re going to get a tattoo on your sleeve, wearing a sleeveless clothing would be very convenient).
DON'TS :
- Drink alcohol or caffeine. Alcohol can thin the blood and makes you bleed easily during the session, and when you bleed too much, not only it is painful, it will also affect your healing process and the healed result of your tattoo. As for caffeine, it will make you jittery and restless which will be uncomfortable for you,
- Take blood-thinning medications, such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen,
- Get a tan/sunbunt skin. Sunburnt skin is a freshly damaged skin and it is not ideal to slap a tattoo on that. It will hurt more, it may lead to an infection, and the healed result may not be optimal as well. So make sure your skin is clean and healthy before your session, okay?
- Exercise too much. Intensive exercising before your session will strain the muscles and make you sore, so it will hurt more during the session.
Yep, I think that covers pretty much all you need to know and prepare before your tattoo session. Thank you for trusting this urban witch to draw magic on your skin! See you soon!
